The continuous statements by the political leaders in the Kurdish movement and the leadership cadres of the PKK, the armed wing of the Kurdish movement, that Kurds and Turks can build a common life together is very ironic. Despite these ironic statements, the Turkish State has never expressed any desire for Turks to live together with Kurds under any conditions. This situation is a reality that does not reflect the truth, beyond an ironic and painful statement, and is unimaginable for both sides. The fact that this discourse comes only from the Kurds seems to be an injustice to the memories and efforts of people who have sincerely served the Kurdish movement. So why can't Kurds and Turks live together?
- The oppression of the Kurdish people and the Kurdistan Region by the Turkish State has never been accepted by the Turkish people.
- The torture, denial, prohibitions, and abductions by the Turkish State have never been seen by the Turkish people, and those that were seen were considered deserved punishments.
- The military and administrative oppression of the Turkish State, which does not recognize language, culture, honor, and human rights, has been done and continues to be done thanks to the unlimited authority given by the Turkish people to their state.
- No positive development reflected by the Turkish State has reached the Kurdish geography, and moreover, the Turkish people have been convinced that Kurds have a better life than they deserve.
- The Turkish State has conscripted every male individual into compulsory military service, especially sending Kurdish youths into clashes with the PKK, causing brother to kill brother. When a Kurdish youth is killed by T.C. weapons, he is considered a martyr; when killed by PKK weapons, he is considered a terrorist, and this has been accepted by the Turkish people without question.
- The Turkish State has never provided a free political arena for the Kurdish people in any period, attempting to shut down every political initiative with a label of terrorism, and this has been accepted and deemed appropriate by the Turkish people without question.
I can write you hundreds of such reasons, hundreds of examples of oppression, torture, and denial. This situation has naturally been done and continues to be done by the governments of the Turkish State supported by the Turkish people. These events will never be forgotten at any time, and the leaders of Kurdish politics and institutions must now abandon this "living together is possible" lie.
